The World Heritage Committee meeting in Quebec City has added eight new cultural sites to UNESCO’s World Heritage List on the morning of the 7 of July 2008. Melaka is one of them :D. Obviously, there must be lots of interesting places to visit at Melaka since it is a historical city and the root/foundation of Tanah Melayu, or Malaysia as we know by now. You can read the history HERE as I found it very interesting and can add up our knowledge about our own country.
Lets continue from my last post on Trip to Melaka and take a look on the remaining buildings/historical from the colonial of Portuguese in the ancient time.........
1.30pm : Went to Melaka town
Antara tempat2 yg dilawati ialah :
2.30pm : MALACCA RIVER CRUISE
So we bought our tickets. (Adult RM10 / Children below 12 years old, above 2 years old RM5) and waited at the peer for the cruise. The cruise will only operate with a minimum 8 persons per voyage and will take approximately 45 minutes (9km) from the Quay Side Heritage Centre. It was end of the year where normally people brought their family for holiday, so it was quite packed once we boarded into the cruise. Luckily we managed to get the best seats (plg depan...).
Classic.....
Feels like Venice, anyone?
We saw lots of mangrove during the cruise. Mangrove forests protect uplands from storm winds, waves, and floods. Mangroves can help prevent erosion by stabilizing shorelines with their specialized root systems. And also a tourist attraction when it's inhabitant came out to flash itself. It's a big lizard! (BIAWAK)
I love the many murals on the buildings showcasing the history of Melaka.
The cruise boat passes under many bridges that had important functions in the old days.
Eye on Malaysia, errr.. ke Eye on Melaka :P
We also saw the Kg Morten (Morten village) during the cruise. It is the only Malay villages available in the city of Melaka nowadays. Kampung Morten is one of Malaysian national heritage site. It was named after J.F. Morten, who was the Commissioner of Land in the early 1920's during the early history of the village.
Rumah nie plg over, rumah tok ketua kampung dia agaknya...
The controversial Malacca’s monorail that has ground to a halt owing to a host of problems. The monorail line is part of Malacca’s aim to tap the potential of the river as a tourist attraction.
Taming Sari Tower from distance. We didn't make it to try on this trip however I'd been there before. Maybe I can post about it in my post later ok!
We enjoyed it nevertheless. If there is to comment, it was the recorded voice that been played all along the cruise. I have no problem with the recorded one nor annoyed with the guide explaining about information of Melaka. The problem is, the LANGUAGE was in Malay. Im not bias or to be international, but maybe we can give the priority for international tourist by giving them the information in international language (English). Rasanya rata2 org Malaysia dh x perlu diperkenalkan sgt dgn kawasan Melaka nie. Dgn menarik lbh ramai pelancong asing, it can help to boost up our economy and tourism industry. That's my only concern, others from that x ade. (Ceh ckp mcm ahli politik..):D
Cruises are available daily at every thirty minute interval between the following times: 9.30am to 5pm and 6pm to 12 midnight ok!
Located next to the River Cruise was a MARITIME MUSEUM so we went there.
Maritime Museum (Replica Flor de La Mar), Malacca is also known as Muzium Samudera in Malay language.
Percaya tak, Maritime Museum is a Portuguese ship that sank off the coast of Melaka while on its way to Portugal. Cool hah!
Tgk gambar...!
Dan lagi...
Kasi can, artis kena amik gamba dgn dua2 (Yantoq and Jenot). Br fair & square!
Next kita pegi mana...?
3.15pm : BANDAR HILIR fotogedix
Stadthuys, also known as The Dutch Square is famous for its red-painted buildings. It has a display of many unique Dutch masonry and architectural skills. The Stadthuys, in the Dutch Square, was built in 1650, it is a typical Dutch building with a clock tower. It was once an official home to the Dutch Governors. It has been preserved in its original Dutch architectural form. It is also a historic museum and houses some interesting display of traditional bridal costumes and relics, and others.
Within the square, Melaka Clock Tower which was built in 1886. Gila lama....
Along the Stadhuys, there are plenty of souvenirs shops selling varieties of things.
The Queen Victoria's fountain at my back was built in 1901...
Warning.... U got to have a very thick skin to attempt all the poses below!
Centre of the square..
Ok saje....
Historical building...
If you want to enjoy the sightseeing around the town in a slow and laid-back manner, you may probably opt for a trishaw ride. However, bear in mind that the payment as to the point of writing is RM 40 /hour. We also spotted the double decker bus. Accordingly, it is like the KL hop in bus where the bus will travel to places of interest around Malacca with only one fees for the whole day.
This is the four sail windmill built to mark the Dutch occupation in Melaka. It is located opposite the Clock Tower and the Stadhuys Building.
Since its location is just steps way from the roads, it is hard to capture the whole compound of the windmill unless you willingly stand in the divider of the busy road and under the hot sun. (which in our case... SANGGUP!!)
Surrounding the windmill is a beautiful mini garden including this mushroom alike plants. (Persetankan setiap mata yg memandang.. kami sanggup masuk ke dalam semak samun janji gambar cantik!)
Thick skinned... weren't we??
I think we'd done with dutch town, we then move on to next place, jalan2 budget pelancong!
From its role as a meeting point between the East and West in the 16th Century, the Melaka River has morphed into a tourism destination today. It was once an important trade route during the heyday of Malacca Sultanate in the 15th century.
Me, soaked in Malacca's history........
When people talk about Malacca, people talk about JONKER STREET. Jonker Street or also known as Jonker Walk is one of the icon of Malacca. So basically what is Jonker Street? It’s a street that sells souvenirs, antique and food, and also turns into crowded night market on the weekend. Jonker Street, is known worldwide among serious antique collectors as one of the best places to hunt and bargain for antiques. Nowadays Jonker Street is in the old Chinatown. It's a long narrow five hundred meter street, flanked by old houses dating back to 17th century.
Jonker Street was just few walks from the square but it was late already and we needed to catch time so we skipped that one...
Our historical tour stopped at the PORTUGUESE FORT.
Such a sweet photo!
Wen went up the fort and had a good time posing with the cannons... Real cannons!!
X senonoh la ini perempuan...
Satisfied with our dozens of photo there we went here. THE WATER WHEEL. You may enlarge to read the info.
We finished with our tour and back to the water cruise station since my car was parked there.
Tumit habis pecah2 lenguh2 akibat berjalan... Yantoq and Jenot had their foot massage (fish massage) before went home. Uit sape yg drive balik nie, driver still mantain. (I started to feel gross imagine all the 'taik kaki' accumulated along our tour eaten by the fishes... pity fish!)
9pm : Bertolak blk ke KL
11pm : Arrived at Yantoq house. Dinner at T'Amor and went HOME.
Well, it was hell of a trip !
I enjoyed every second of it...
Maybe it was not a perfect holiday, I appreciated every second of it. To Jenot n Yantoq, sorry for any flaws (if any) during this holiday and thanks for adding another precious experience, sweet memory in my life. What's more, it's end of year.... I got a good damn chapter to close my diary this year. Yeah.... what a year, full with vacation with frens. I like it very much!!
Till then sweeties, keep on staying with me. Appreciate it a lot!
-LOVE-
