Birmingham King

World No 1 and our local hero, Dato' Lee Chong Wei stunned tournament favourite Lin Dan 21-17, 21-17 to defend his men’s singles title in All-England Championships that ended yesterday. He in fact won for himself and Malaysia much more than simply the world’s most prestigious badminton championship.

Chong Wei, through sheer grit and hard work, overcame the psychological barrier and proved he could beat Lin Dan, not in some lesser tournament but a major one at that. He thus avenged his 2009 defeat by Lin Dan at the same stage of the tournament and also gained the undisputed right to be the World No. 1.

All of Chong Wei’s achievements are certain to give him and Malaysia a big boost in the preparations for the upcoming 2012 London Olympics, at which we are targeting at least four gold medals. An example of determination, dedication and discipline, Chong Wei must certainly inspire his teammates and our budding champions with these qualities that will earn for them and our nation more honours in the future.

Let us not fail to also recognize our doubles pair of Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong who qualified for the final at the 2011 All-England tournament with some great wins en route but ultimately lost in a close tie to the Danish pair of Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen.

We are proud of the achievements of our badminton stars of yesteryear and our champions of today. Let us hope we’ll witness even greater successes in the years ahead.

Oh.... I'm so proud to be Malaysian!!!

Massive Earthquake Rocks Japan!

By the time I'm writing this post, all people over the world might probably have heard and knew about one of the hottest news happened in our history today.

We were all shocked with the news of two terrifying tragedies, seemingly endless minutes Friday. First the most powerful earthquake ever recorded in Japan shook apart homes and buildings, cracked open highways and unnerved even those who have learned to live with swaying skyscrapers. It ranked as the fifth-largest earthquake in the world since 1900 and was nearly 8,000 times stronger than one that devastated Christchurch, New Zealand, last month. (One after another, is it a normal nature xtvt or a result of the human violences toward the earth and this is how the earth retaliated to us back).

Then 2ndly came a 10-metres high devastating tsunami that slammed into northeastern Japan and killed hundreds of people. The violent wall of water swept away houses, cars and ships. Fires burned out of control. Power to a cooling system at a nuclear power plant was knocked out, forcing thousands to flee. A boat was caught in the vortex of a whirlpool at sea.

The death toll rose steadily throughout the day, but the true extent of the disaster was not known because roads to the worst-hit areas were washed away or blocked by debris and airports were closed.

Japan's stock market drops and the world's economic also affected on this tragedy.

It was such a terrible disaster and the lost of not only properties and valuables, but the most important thing was their love ones is deeply shared by all of us. It is time for us to unite, together we pray for them... for their safety, strength to face the ruins and re-construct back their country.

P/S : Following this, a major tsunami warning was issues to more than 50 countries, including much of the pacific coast, which will be the worst affected regions in the case of a possible tsunami. Hope all of us will take this warning seriously and take extra pre-caution anytime you're near with the beach area.

Murphy Futsal Tournament 2011

Day / Date : Saturday (5th March 2010)
Venue : Ampang Sports Planet

Lina was organizing a futsal tournement for her company and she invited me to join her team since they're kind of short of members. It was an inter-level competition (well U know how many levels are there at KLCC tower right?), where one team should consist mix of min 2 ladies player and 1 man as a goal keeper which was mandatory.
I was involved in the Murphy Futsal Tournament 2 years ago but not as player, only committee member AKA Score Keeper.

Im not that good in futsal ( though I've been called a striker and "ayam tambatan" for my former company's team... oh perasan hokey :D ), but it had been a year off from futsal resulted in my lack of stamina + confidence + skill + tactic... so on....so on..., imagined how less I would contribute to my team in the game. However, due to this year resolution to get back in shape (well that is actually an every year goal), motivation from Lina plus free jersey that I would get for free, Wow! That was really a strong encouragement so I agreed and IN to the game!

Then that was it. On the day, Lina, Miss Yatie (dedicated photographer) and I went out early in the morning to Ampang Sports Planet, prepared for the game and around 9.30am the game started. My team wore a white jersey and the list of teams participated was as below :

Guess which one was our team?? I had no idea about the team's name selection as I was outsider and all I knew my team was Group A4-Level 31 : SUBSURFACE.

There were all together 6 teams competing and each group had total 6 games in a first round (1 game = 10 mins).

Unfortunately we lost almost in all the matches (yup gelak la... Looser kan...Huhuhuhu), so obviously we didn't make it to the second round.

The first round finished around 12pm, so I decided to go home as I had no more business here (dah kalah dh pun)... lgpun sebenarnya I wanted to go back to my hometown afterward with my sister Uda. During the intermission before the second round started, I took an oppurtunity to snap photo inside the pitch with Lina.

Then photo of myself berangan with the 1st prize voucher worth RM800!!
P/S : Please ignore my oily, greasy face ok.

Piala rebutan. THE CUP!

Then I bidded goodbye to Lina and all my team mates, heading to Kajang. Pick up Uda and together to my favourite place in the whole world.... a place called HOME.
