Seeking Siem Reap, Cambodia : First day (KLIA2 to Siem Reap International Airport)

i) 17/03/2017 - KLIA2 to Siem Reap International Airport

For this trip, Kayrie who actually already bought the ticket had to cancel it due to her health condition that was unfit to travel. It made only 6 persons + 1 child who joined this trip - Me, Miss Yar, Bamalex, Lina, their son Emmer Musa, Mass and her mama. So it was the day. As ussual I went to the Airport with Lina + family and Miss Yar. As the departure time was at 6.10am, we arrived there around 5am, checked in and met Mass and her mama. Together we entered the boarding hall, and not very long waiting, boarded the flight to Siem Reap.

It took 2 hours air flight journey to Siem Reap. As our trip started at early in the morning, we took the in-flight menu for breakfast. We expected to go straight with our itinerary once landed, so better make our stomach full first before started our activity and for energy!

The 2 hours journey felt very short when suddenly the pilot announced for landed....

Landed to the land of Cambodia.

You can see a very dry soil as we came here during dry season.

A little bit about Siem Reap from WIKI, is the capital city of Siem Reap Province in northwestern Cambodia. It is a popular resort town and a gateway to the Angkor region.
The name "Siem Reap" can be translated to mean "Defeat of Siam" (Siam = Thailand), and is commonly taken as a reference to an incident in the centuries-old conflict between the Siamese and Khmer kingdoms, although this is probably apocryphal. According to oral tradition, King Ang Chan (1516–1566) had named the town "Siem Reap", meaning "the defeat of Siam", after he repulsed an army sent to invade Cambodia by the Thai King Maha Chakkraphat in 1549. However, scholars such as Michael Vickery consider this derivation to be simply a modern folk etymology, and maintain that while the names Siem Reap and Chenla (old Chinese name for Cambodia) may perhaps be related, the actual origin of the name is unknown.

So, finally we landed to this beautifull land. Siem Reap time is one hour behind Malaysia time, which made our time of arrival was at 7.15am.

The weather was so hot once we landed but it didn't stop the excitement as reflected in my face.

The runway area is quite small. It seemed pretty bare though; there was just one other plane parked. We happily posed here and there before entering the airport building.

Lina brought along children bicycle for his son. Quite usefull especially during our visit to Angkor Wat. At least when his son got tired, they didn't have to carry him all the time. Just put the child on the bicycle like a stroller. It has one long push handle at the back for parent to steer the bike and can be removed easily when child is riding along (Ok saya x jual bicycle ni :D)

For an airport in a third world country, it’s extremely modern and well-organised :)

Look at the toilet, one never expected they're in Cambodia. Very clean and modern too.

Once checked out the immigration, we went out and waited for our Tuk_Tuk driver, Kassim. We hired Kassim, our local driver / tour guide beforehand through whatsapp.

Getting a prepaid 3G SIM card in Siem Reap

Another surprise that beside the modern looking airport, Cambodia also offered the fastest and yet cheapest dataplan. Buy a local SIM at the airport to stay connected. Normal rate for the starter kit is USD 5 at 5.5GB dataplan. It is valid for 30 days and is preloaded with US$10. You can use it to make calls and surf the Internet. International and local calling is cheap, and you’ll be surprised how good the 3G speed is.

Just find this booth. They will help to insert the sim and set up for us.

While the other members purchasing the simkad, Emmer Musa was so tired and slept on the bench waiting for the Tuk-Tuk to arrived.

Deep sleep.

The Siem Reap Airport.

Lina. Miss Yar and Mama Mass took photo infront of the Airport.

About 15 minutes, Kassim arrived with his friend. As one Tuk-Tuk could carry up to 4 persons, we needed to take 2 Tuk-Tuks.

The Tuk-Tuk was quite different then I had either in Thailand or Philippines. It was quite spacious with large comfort cushion seat.

Lina and family rode on one Tuk-Tuk which is Kassim's friend.

The rest of us rode on Kassim's Tuk-Tuk.

Since we were too early to check-in and our rooms wasn't ready yet, Kassim brought us straight to our first destination. We were ready to explore and see what Siem Reap had to offer.

Enjoying the Tuk-Tuk ride.

As we started our journey early in the morning, we were quite sleepy. Plus the hot and windy environment.. mmg layan.

Where was our first destination??
