Some info...

ZULAIKHA BIKA AMBON & LAPIS LENGIT SHOP

Ok, our first spot for that day was to a cake house. If in Bandung Kartika Sari is the place to buy the famous layer cake, here in Medan, Zulaikha is the top of the all layer cakes and Bika Ambon maker. I don't know why it's so famous (but of course with a good reason) and according to Uda, Zulaikha is the best in term of taste and quality. The cake is pleasantly chewy and has the sort of eggy-custardy-coconut flavor that's very popular in Indonesian desserts.

Imagine you have to come as early in the morning coz by the time we reached there around 9pm, most of the cakes already finished. Only few left for grabbed. I think this is another factor for it's high demand. All the cakes are baked daily so it's fresh.

We were not allowed to take photo inside the shop. When we stepped inside, there were lots of sample for each flavor of cakes. Layer cake jer ade perisa strawberry, chocolate, cheese, prune, pandan, etc, Bika pun ade flavor pandan, cheese, original, etc, blum termasuk brownies, other cakes and cordial drinks like markisa (passion fruit), terung belanda and soursop. Rasa2 sample jer dah kenyang... :P

I have to give credit here... since they know we normally bought these cakes/cordials as a souvenir, all the stuff you bought will be nicely packed inside a box like a parcel. Siap ade tali as a handle. So you don't have to worry about your cake inside the plane but advisable not to put in the luggage (cargo), just hand carry (mana tau diaorg campak2 je kotak tu). However the flight staff normally will know because at the box also already has the Zulaikha logo and details of things inside.

I spent quite a lot here... Price for Layer Cake is around RM22++ and Bika Ambon RM13++. Mission accomplished we went to next place, Pajak Ikan. I had give brief explanation about this place in my previous post. You can check HERE

Statue at the roundabout...

Normal view at Pajak ikan... pack and busy area.

See those fabrics... lots of choices from the color to the design. Kat Malaysia beratus2, here U can get below hundred if U're good at haggling!

Mama and Uda were helping Ucu to choose the "telekung".

Indonesian telekung also famous because of the cotton type which is so comfortable to wear and the handmade is so fine. Price is cheap too (note : haggling skill is highly required). Normal price if we bought at Jln Masjid India KL around RM100++ here we could get around RM60++.

Macam-macam ada...!

Bazaarnya disebalik kedai2 ini. Lebih kurang mcm bazaar kat Jln Tar, KL tu

Motor stall still available here...

MEDAN MALL

2nd shopping also settled. Exhausted after a long walk and "bersesak2" inside the bazaar, we went to the Medan Mall as Along, Abg Mus and mama wanted to have a cream bath at the saloon.

Ok let me tell you, Medan is one of the place where you can get hair treatment, beauty treatment, massage, manicure+pedicure and anything sort like that easily and cheap. It is quite common... Uda had her eyebrow trimmed, spa, facial quite a routine here. So there are lots of saloon provide a cream bath service where they will wash your hair and massage your head, neck up to shoulder. So relaxing.... You can have a foot massage there too!!

Services and prices...

Uda, Ucu and me brought the children to the playground nearby while waiting

Untitled-1

Es teler is like an ABC, located next to the playground so we just "lepak" there and watched the children.

Getting bored.... Ucu asked her husband to watch the kids, while we went to the arcade next to the Medan Mall for more shopping. Idea bernas!!

Here, it sells clothes like dress, blouse, skirt, jeans and many more...

Ucu bought "tudung sarung" for Liya. So sweet....

After everyone done with their businesses (shopping/cream bath), we went for lunch. It's nearly 2pm, everyone starved.
We called the taxi and waited outside the mall

Along was so "ceria" after the cream bath. Mana tak hepi, dah kena urutkan...

Me and becak at my back...

Medan is a big city, 3rd after Jakarta and Surabaya if I'm not mistaken. So U imagine the concentration and how big the city is. At the town itself, there are more than 7 shopping malls as per my observation. Quite civilized and safe. :P

This is called angkut. It's like a mini bus. If u're an adventurous type, U should try this one. Fare is fix Rp1000 = Rm0.40 only. You will never forget the experience!!

WANG SOLO RESTAURANT

Reach at Wang Solo for lunch. Arghhh... this restaurant is famous already. The branches already extended to Malaysia. Do I still need to review about it. Well you can read at this LINK ok. Nanti panjang plak post nie. :D

We took the 2nd floor and sat on the floor. Malay style!
