2011 Family Vacation - MEDAN INDONESIA

Whoaa... this is our 2nd family vacation for this year. So funny as the initial objective to go here was to watch and celebrate Uda's convocation. However since the convocation had been postponed and we already bought our ticket, we just continued our plan. You may read my post on Uda convocation HERE.

Back to our trip, our journey started as early at 9.45am where first we had breakfast at Sg. Kantan then next straight to LCCT.

Reached LCCT at 11am, checked in and walked through the immigration check point finally I passed. No more black-listed.... Alhamdulillah. Waited around 1 hr at boarding hall for flight QZ8900 which departed from Malaysia at 1.30pm to Medan.....

The children 1st experience... Can see the excited faces from each one of them.

Fly up2 to the sky

We safely reached Medan around 1.45pm local time. Medan time is one hour late from Malaysia time.

We took taxi to our hotel, TIARA MEDAN HOTEL for checked in. It just took us few minutes to reach there.

Local Police Truck......

One happy family at the hotel's lobby.

We got our room keys and checked in to our rooms.
Hooray, Uda was so excited when her butt touched the bed.

Kaboom.... cop katil dulu. This was mine!

We had Uda with us so we didn't need this. She was our tour guide and of course with 6 years of experience, she definitely mastered all the places here already.

Complete set of toiletries... Good for Along who like to collect it.

We just had a quick survey in our room, kept our luggage and went out back for lunch at 3pm.

We were damn starving that time. It's just like a trend when every time we went to Medan, our first place to lunch was always at Garuda Restaurant, and so the same for this trip.

RESTORAN GARUDA

Restoran Garuda is famous for it's Padang/Minang dishes. The foods are superb and varies. They will serve you everything they have in your table (gulai lemak, daging dendeng, otak sapi, ikan goreng, gado2, masak lemak... just name a few and lots more!!) but make sure you just take the one that you intent to eat only. It is their style of serving. Jgn perasan ini buffet ok. Of course sape x teruja tgk lauk pauk yg melimpah ruah atas mejakan. But that's the trick! They will charge you according to the dishes you took, even you just "rasa" one spoon of gravy for example, it's counted once touched! So imagine if you "taste" all the dishes..... broke on the first day at Medan. Huh!

We took the air-conditioned hall and the dining table made us felt like home. Total cost for our lunch = RM150++. Worth it la for 7 adultskan....

Jgn x tau, this restaurant also has a delivery service. Kalah Pizza Hut kau! According to UDA, they normally delivered pack of lunch set to kantor2 (office). Class uolss!!

Oh ya I forgot to tell you, Restoran Garuda nie mmg ade a few branches at Medan. Also available at major cities in Indonesia and now already expand their business to Malaysia!! Since my brother in law wanted to tempah pants and coat at PAJAK IKAN, we went to Restoran Garuda branch at that area. Senang after lunch can straight walked to the place.

PAJAK IKAN

A bit about pajak ikan (fish pawn direct translation), it got nothing to do with fish, any seafood or wet market. But yes indeed you may shop there as that is a very famous place in Medan to find and buy cheap and variety type of clothes and textiles. It is similar to Jalan TAR in Malaysia.

My brother in law used to go there as the tailor can make anythings like pants, shirt and coat which can be done in one day only. There's also a service to sent the clothes to your hotel up to your front door! Excellentkan...? Quality both from workmanship to textile is superb. Satisfaction is guarantee!! Quite cheap also compared to the ready made designer coat.

Kalau nak berposing, serahkan pada Arisha. She inherited her aunt's talent. (cuba teka sape..?) Ngeh..ngeh...

Even we'd been followed corner to corner by numerous street salesmen to promote their souvenirs.... however, we didn't plan to shop anything yet. After done the booking, we went back to hotel but this time by BECAK (trishaw).

Becak normally has 2 seats, one seat can fit 2 peoples like me and Uda (adult). Another tiny seat opposite the main seat obviously for 1 small/light person like Arisha. If u asked me the max passengers allowed for one becak, my answer would be infinity. Depends on how creative you are to fit on the becak. I'd seen 5 peoples (3 on the becak sambil pangku baby, and another one bonceng driver..), so Indonesian. Salute!

My nephew Hayqal really had a great time, he kept calling and waving to us everytime our becak next to his one. At least a new experience for him, and a fun one!

Uda n I didn't straight back to our room, instead we took the same becak to Sun Plaza to buy snacks and some personal stuffs (battery, headache pills, etc). Sun Plaza is one of the main & mega mall in Medan located about 1km from our hotel.

Local snack. Aku suka singkong, kau suka keju... oh..oh.. (sinkong means potato in English).

Finished our shop, we went back to our comfort room at 6pm... Rest and rilex.

I will stop my writing here and will be continued of course darling. See you in my next post. Tired suda :D
