Escape to Endau-Rompin

22nd July 2010, Day 1

I started my journey where Nick picked me up from house around 9.30am. Then we went for shopping at Jusco Balakong to buy snacks and I managed to grab 2 Padini baby-tees (on sale 2 for RM50) plus 2 caps (Denim Padini and pink from Orange).
Aduhai kopak mak noks. Belum ape2 duit dh habis shopping kat Jusco.

Since Yanti would be back from school (teaching) around 12.30pm, we wandered around the complex, window shopping until 11.30am. From Serdang, we headed to Yantie’s house at Subang Perdana, had lunch (awesomely prepared by Yantie’s mama… thanks aunty!!) and after performed Dzuhur prayer, 3 of us departed to Endau-Rompin.

I took a first task as a driver, using Plus and exited at Alor Gajah/Tampin (eh…eh macam nak balik kampong den yo..), however we took a route to Gemencheh, Rokan, Bahau and finally reached ROMPIN… ye..ye… This was super fast man, approximately 2hrs only. We could see the signboard Rompin however we felt something was not right here and that were because…………. :

i) Most of people we asked and googled mentioned that journey to Endau-Rompin via road will take fastest 4 hours. How come would we the first time driver could make it in 2hrs only.

ii) Based on our knowledge also that Endau-Rompin supposed to be near a beach area however there was no sign of beach, coconut tree or what so ever that can relate us to the beach. It was only a remote town, very small and took only 5mins to explore all the area. When I drove further, I already back on the road where the palm plantation on left and right my side (Felda area). So I don’t think that this town was commercial enough to be tourist attraction. No hotels, resort or even a homestay or budget lodge. It was definitely not the “Rompin” that we were looking for.

We quickly went to the one & only petrol station (Petronas) available there to get a map at the Mesra Shop. At this point I already started to regret why I didn’t print a map from home like usual. I did my research however was too arrogant by thinking that the journey would be easy and no map required. So sekarang merasala baru terkial2 nak beli map tp malangnya nama pun pekan kecik, map xde jual walaupun kat Petronas.

Luckily, we were truly lucky that once we went out from the Mesra Shop, we noticed that there was a large map of all roads in Malaysia posted on the glass wall just in front of our car park. Was it a coincident or maybe because there already lots of people mistakenly thought Rompin N9 as Endau-Rompin so they had put the map there…
Hhahha sendiri yg salah, nak kaitkan org lain sama.

Double lucky (could we eh..?), as while we were studying the map, there was one group of youngsters (ala2 mat rempit) approached us and asked where we wanted to go. After explained to them our destination, they gave us a very details direction to Endau-Rompin, in-fact the easy one which passed the Felda Kletong to Muadzam and then to Rompin. We did’nt have to go south to Segamat then to Muadzam because it would be more far. After thanked the mat2 motor we continued our journey based on their direction however our initial feeling were still in doubt. The road we passed through was so quiet; it was a long straight lane surrounded by palm plantation site and no others vehicle seen. At the end of the road we met the junction (as precisely described by the mat motor) and what made us relieved was when we saw a signboard to Endau-Rompin pointed to direction exactly like what the boys had told us. We were on the right track and after that our journey was smooth and easy except there were certain areas (after Muadzam) that totally out of network coverage and very deserted. I tried not to imagine what would happen if our car broke down at this place…. With no one to ask for help, no line to call, the darkness (no lamp posts!!), any bad things could happen…

Alhamdullilah even we were a bit late, we finally reached Endau-Rompin and checked in at Rompin Beach Resort (RBR) around 7.30pm. We heard the wave sounds and with the strong ocean’s wind blew, there was no way we could be mistake this time! We were positive in Endau-Rompin!! What a day and what a journey we had gone through. Yet still a great experience to have.

We got our room at the highest level of the hotel building. With no elevator, we had to use stairs from ground to 3rd floor. That’s what people said “No pain, no gain”… Our room was ok (well we don’t expected much as we got it for free), clean and comfy. We had a nice view facing the swimming pool and the sea was just at the back of the resort so we could see the beach from our balcony. We cleaned ourselves and starved, went out for dinner at 8.30pm.

Woosshh... penatnya menaip sama mcm penatnya ekspidisi kitaorg kali ni. Wanna rest la, so I stop my writing here... to be continued ok.
